Privacy Policy – Barcode Scanner

1. No Account, No Backend & On-Device Processing

Barcode Scanner operates entirely on-device. There is no account creation, no login, and no backend server operated by us. We (the developer) do not collect, receive, store, or sell any personal data.

2. Camera & Live Scanning (100% On-Device)

The App requests Camera permission exclusively to scan barcodes and QR codes live in real time.

• On-Device Processing: Video frames are analyzed locally on your device using Google ML Kit on Android and Apple Vision on iOS.
• No Storage or Upload: Frames are processed in memory solely to decode barcodes and QR codes. No images, video, or camera streams are ever stored on your device or uploaded to external servers.

3. Photo Library Permissions

Barcode Scanner requests photo library access only for specific actions initiated directly by you:

• Read Access (Scan from Image): Used only when you pick an image from your photo library to scan a code from it. The image is processed 100% on-device and is never uploaded or transmitted.
• Write / Add Access (Save to Gallery): Used only when you tap "Save to gallery" to save an image of a QR code or barcode you have generated within the App.

4. Scan History, Settings & Data Export

Your scan history and settings are stored locally on your device (in private app storage) and are never sent to our servers or third parties.

• Local Storage Only: All saved scans, favorites, and user preferences remain strictly on your device.
• User Control: You can delete individual history items or clear your entire scan history at any time within the App.
• Data Export: Scan history can be exported to CSV or JSON format ONLY when you explicitly choose to share it via the native system share sheet.

5. Clipboard Usage

The App writes data to the system clipboard only when you explicitly copy scanned or generated content, or if you enable the optional "auto-copy" setting in the App.

6. User-Initiated External Actions

When you interact with scan results, you may trigger actions that open external applications or services on your device (such as a web browser, map directions, phone dialer, SMS messaging, email client, contacts, system share sheet, or product lookup searches including Open Food Facts and Google search for product codes). Data is transmitted to those external services under their own terms and privacy policies only upon your explicit action.

7. Advertising & Third-Party SDKs

The App displays banner and interstitial advertisements via Google AdMob (Google Mobile Ads SDK):

• Data Collection by AdMob: Google AdMob may collect device identifiers (such as the Android Advertising ID or iOS IDFA), IP address, and ad interaction or diagnostic data, and use cookies or identifiers to serve personalized or non-personalized ads.

• No Analytics or Crash-Reporting SDKs: The App does not include any analytics SDK, crash-reporting SDK, or Firebase.

8. Consent Management & Privacy Controls

We provide transparent user controls regarding advertising and privacy:

• EEA/UK/Switzerland Consent (GDPR): For users in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland, the App displays a consent form powered by Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP). You can review or change your consent choices at any time in the app under Settings → Privacy settings.
• iOS App Tracking Transparency: On iOS, the App requests permission via the App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt. If you decline, ads will be non-personalized.

9. GDPR Data Protection Rights

Under data protection regulations, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), users have rights to access, rectification, erasure, and portability of their personal data:

• No Developer-Held Data: Because we do not operate a backend server, create accounts, or collect personal data, VirtualBox Development holds no personal data belonging to you.
• Local Data Control: You have full control over your data directly on your device. You can delete individual scan records or clear all history within the App. Uninstalling the App immediately and permanently removes all locally stored data and settings.
• Advertising Data: For advertising data collected by Google AdMob, please refer to Google's privacy settings and controls to manage or delete data associated with your advertising identifier.

10. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect updates in app features or regulatory requirements. Any revisions will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
